I generally like Duke’s choices in helmets and protective gear, but the one thing holding their look back is those horrendous Brine (Warrior) unis. They are just too busy and kind of cheap looking. I was glad to see a new team holding the trophy on Memorial Day, but I just wish Duke looked better doing it.

How about if they go with the Michigan wings on their helmets, like their football helmets (in black and orange of course). A lot of people don’t know this, but the winged helmet design that Michigan has made famous was actually started at Princeton by Fritz Crisler. He coached there first and took the design with him to Ann Arbor.

History lesson – a one-stripe version of the winged helmet was first used at Michigan State (ironically) two years before Crisler started using the now standard three stripe version at Princeton.

some pretty solid ideas right there!
as we see more focus on decal design, I expect programs like Duke, Princeton, Harvard to go even more basic and classic with special custom tweaks. The leaders are always steps ahead of the followers. I do think you’ll see crazy decals at lower ranked D1 teams though. Some are desperate for an “edge”, whatever it is.

Unless there is a Warrior option that doesn’t involve 52 different color zones, I don’t think the Princeton unis can achieve the traditional, clean look that they had back in the day. I wouldn’t mind seeing some orange helmets with black chin and a black P decal, but the uniforms are just un-Princeton-like and are a huge step in the wrong direction.
