This “whole Jay Z saying lacrosse is soft in a song to dis Drake” thing is just getting out of hand. I think the situation blew up way more than it needed to in the lacrosse world, but one good response was from former pro wrestler (and Long Island lax dad) Taz.
We have another TV lacrosse stick spotting, but this time it’s from Portlandia! Thanks to @ConnectLax for tweeting us this week’s spotting, and including this awesome hashtag.
John Grant Junior recently hit a huge NLL milestone: 600 career goals. Junior is only the third player to hit this mark, joining John Tavares and Gary Gait in the 600 club. A lot of well-deserved congratulations went out to the Mammoth star, but none funnier than this from face-off man Jerry Ragonese:
Crosse Studios is back with another lacrosse video game! This time it’s Lacrosse Arcade 2014, a mobile game available both in the Google Play store for Android devices and the iTunes store for iOS devices. I’ve been playing the game the last few weeks on both iPhone and iPad, and now I’m giving you a look into the newest lacrosse video game.
Toronto Rock star Garrett Billings was recently the subject of a CNN.com article in the site’s “Human to Hero” series. According to its website, “Human to Hero gets to the heart of what it takes to be a sporting star.” In Billings’ article and video, he discusses the abundance of lacrosse players on Wall Street, the lessons of playing college lacrosse that translate to the professional world, as well as the growth of the game and a bit about his personal life.
Major League Lacrosse has seemingly gone away from using the grippy, neon orange balls that they have used in the past. This caused quite a stir on Twitter, especially from the Chesapeake Bayhawk’s head coach Dave Cottle. At first the rumor was that grippy balls picked up too much dirt, making them hard to see on TV. When the discussion turned to the color of the balls being the issue, the best tweet came in the form of Trevor Tierney appealing to Connor Martin.
Welcome back with another Southland Lax Video Explosion! Over the past few years on the LaxAllStars homepage, the College Lacrosse Video Explosion has become an LAS regular. Ever heard of Humans of New York? It’s a really cool photo blog that pairs portraits of people in, you guessed, New York City with quotes and captions about their lives. Recently, Brandon, the photographer behind HONY, posted a photo of some girl lacrosse players in the subway station after one of their games.
Over the last few weeks Connor has been asking if the D1 lacrosse poll was serious, evaluating where teams are ranked from #1 to #20 and seeing if the voters got it right. But an interesting thought posed by one of our Twitter followers has us thinking: Is 20 the right number to rank?
It’s Rivalry Week here at LaxAllStars, with big NCAA Division I rivalry games between teams such as Maryland and Johns Hopkins as well as Michigan and Ohio State. Connor gave us the rundown on some of the NCAA’s biggest college lacrosse rivalries, and most MCLA rivalry games are still a week or two away, but let’s take a look at some of the MCLA’s best rivalries.
Sometimes you see lacrosse while shopping. That’s what happened to our guy Sergey, who spotted some lacrosse sticks and photographs at a Ralph Lauren Outlet Store in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Thompson Trio is certainly well-known in the lacrosse world at this point. But are they the most exciting players since Mike Powell donned #22 at Syracuse? Kyle Harrison seems to think so!
Ever heard of Dude Perfect? It’s basically a group of five guys doing insanely awesome tricks and stunts, filming these antics, and posting them to YouTube. But maybe antics isn’t the right word, because the tricks Dude Perfect pulls off are extremely impressive, and these five friends have amassed quite a following on following on YouTube – over 2.4 million subscribers to be exact. And hey, they just used a lacrosse goalie stick in one of their recent videos, Nerf Sports Edition.
In honor of me traveling to the East Coast this week and there being snow on the ground when I look outside, here’s an awesome tweet and photo from Notre Dame assistant coach Gerry Byrne from their game against Ohio State.
