Agreed that it is nothing new, and I would wager from ND to the smallest DIII school, it happens, and in most cases, people do look the other way. Like I said in the post, I remember getting back on campus, and what that was often like.

But I think your second point deserves more attention. What is the role of police on college campuses? And what can or should be done, if anything, about rampant underage drinking? Fight a war on it? Legalize it? Or just keep acting like it’s fine, even though it is technically against the law. Does that not just create a somewhat grey, and ambiguous area for police interpretation?

I’m not trying to blow up your comment at all. It’s insightful. Just curious if anything should be done, or just leave it well enough alone.

My personal view is that it needs to change, just probably not how people think.

This is nothing new, this happens every year at ND with the lacrosse players and football players alike. In most cases, the South Bend police department having nothing better to do than hassle a bunch of college kids. Usually it’s a house raid with 50+ citations. Granted I read the report, and it sounds like some bone-headed shenanigans were occurring. However, campus police officers should be all be acting under the mentality of “To Protect and Serve” not “To hassle and cite”….
