Tournament Info:

In 1997 Coach Jason Lamb of Brigham Young University and Coach Mickey Miles Felton of the University of Arizona began “The Best of the West” tournament with the vision of having the top eight teams west of the Mississippi be invited to play in a tournament that would help elevate the level of play not only for their respective teams, but the Western United States region as a whole.

Las Vegas was then chosen as the best location for the gathering. As the years have passed and the level of play throughout the West has improved, more teams are now being invited.

From the modest beginnings of two teams, the event has now expanded to sixteen. “The Best of the West” Lacrosse Tournament is fast becoming the premiere tournament in the western United States. We invite you to become part of this legacy.

Needless to say, this will give us a good indication of who to look out for come spring. The tourney kicks off with a couple big back to back games for Oregon: Oregon vs. Westminister and then Oregon vs. BYU, a rematch of the 2007 MCLA National Championship. But the real game to watch that night might be the late one, when Arizona State takes on Utah – both teams have been on the cusp of really breaking into the MCLA limelight the past few years.

Overall, this just seems like a GREAT Fall tournament. Key match-ups, well-planned (rumor has it), and a GREAT LOCATION.

Who wouldn’t wanna have the option of hitting the craps tables at halftime? If I were a player at this tournament, I’d make sure that I came home a winner in one way or another…

And now, a little pregame speech for the boys heading to Sin City:

“You got these claws and you’re staring at these claws, and you’re thinkin’ to yourself, with these claws, you’re thinkin’, “How am I supposed to kill this bunny?”“

“You’re like a big bear, man!”
