The St. Margaret Tartans were set to take on the Palos Verde Sea Kings for the US Lacrosse Southern Section Championship, the state championship for the southern half of California. The Tartans were looking to claim their 2nd title in 3 years, having defeated Harvard-Westlake in the 2013 Southern Section Final.
The teams exchanged a handful of back and forth goals and at halftime the game was tied 7-7. In the third quarter each team only scored one goal each to keep it locked at 8-8.
Once the fourth quarter started, St. Margarets came out hot and couldn’t be slowed down. Their offense tacked on six more goals while the defense held Palos Verde scoreless. The clock hit 0:00 and for the second time in three years, the St. Margarets Tartans claimed the Southern Section title!
Erik Suh lead the way for the Tartans with four goals and three other players had two goals a piece. Goalkeeper Peyton Fales had 10 saves, which doesn’t quite grasp the intensity of his epic performance in the 4th quarter to end the Sea Kings hopes of claiming the title.
