FYI– box goalies wear heavy padding (like ice hockey goalies) and defend a much smaller net (4′x4′). You are playing a cajun jambalaya version– all mixed together! This should be termed “indoor field lacrosse”, not “box lacrosse”.

Trust me the, the Mardi Gras tourney is ruckus. Get in touch with the NOLC (above link in blog) and they'll get you on the roster. As you can tell, they do stuff in the off season, too.

I'll be honest, I was caught off guard by the longpole and field goal, too. But after playing that style for 20 minutes, I had more fun playing that way than normal box!

You got to remember we're developing here - not quite up to Maryland/Long Island level yet. We've only had high school lacrosse for 10 years (and in most places only 2 or 3 years) Playing that way is great for developing poles and goalies.

maybe not but at least the game is spreading down to Louisiana. Longsticks in a box tourney? unheard of but still pretty darn awesome. give it time, it will only get better and better. Personally, I think it's a big win that the game is down there at all!!

I'm working down in NOLA on the oil spill, and that red dress thing was pretty ridiculous at 7:30 at night…pretty funny to see a dude wearing a dress getting a lap dance at scores…I really want to go to the Mardi Gras tournament, but I have no idea how I would play any lacrosse down here…every weekend at my hotel in the French Quarter has been rowdy, it doesn't seem like they need a festival to rage down here
