High school has to come first. What is the point of starting middle school if the kids have no where to play after. Once the high school program starts and it gets popular, the next natural step is the middle school/youth level. When a HS adds the sport the administration ultimately will ask the question, how do we get more competitive. The answer is always, we need a feeder program, whether that is middle school or youth leagues etc.

"So what you’re saying is… if we want more high school teams, we
should help high school teams get started up and not middle schools?"
I share this philosophy. While we did start a middle school program this year, I am not counting on it to lead to additional teams by itself. Our middle school program (which is more of an extended clinic than anything) was created more because of demand than anything else. We had enough kids & parents that wanted to get involved that we more or less had to do something. Hopefully this will infect their friends and help spark additional teams, but I am not counting on it.
