CityLax Southampton Shootout Video Highlights

The 8th Annual CityLax Southampton Shootout took place on August 20th, 2016 at Southampton High School out on the easter end of Long Island. The tournament is run by, and benefits, CityLax, which Grows the Game of lacrosse in New York City, especially at public high schools.

Alumni teams from Tufts, Williams, Wesleyan, Dickinson, and Chaminade High School were joined by club teams, one of those being the New York Police Department’s men’s team. No champion is crowned, and all games are played for pride, and a good cause.

It’s a great day of lacrosse, and it gives everyone a chance to reconnect with old friends, compete, and enjoy one of the last August Saturdays of the year. Tufts always puts in a strong group, and it was really interesting to see both departed coach, Mike Daly, and incoming coach, Casey D’Anolfo, on the Tufts’ sidelines. It was like seeing a baton get passed from one coach to the next right before my eyes.

The women also came out to play as two squads from the Central Lacrosse Club played, and they were joined by Strong Island, which was made up of a number of current Stony Brook players. Our apologies to the women for not grabbing any video of you on the turf, but we heard the games were fun!

On a personal note, it was great to play a bit in two games with the Rad Dads, made up Wesleyan alumni and friends. It’s been a while since myself, Chris Mele, Ian Applegate, Blake Maybeck, Chris Meade, David Fine, and Jeff Jorve had shared a field, and it felt good to have the band back together.

For any alumni groups out there with good numbers in and around New York City, this is an event I highly recommend. For a team, get on board, and join in on the fun. No one takes it that seriously, it’s a great chance to renew some old rivalries, and only fun and a good cause are on the line. It’s a perfect end of season tourney, so contact CityLax about getting involved in 2017!
