Miniature 8th Grader Plays High School Goalie

Jake Foard is an 8th grader playing on his high school lacrosse team, as a goalie. Jake is, on average, at least one foot shorter than the other players on the field, but that doesn’t stop him from stepping in between the pipes and taking shots from the big boys.

Wasn’t the music magical? I thought so.

I can relate to what Jake is doing… sort of. When I was in sixth grade, I played for the Weston-Wayland youth lacrosse program. Since the 7th and 8th grade team didn’t have a goalie, I was given the option of either playing goalie, or just practicing with the other 6th graders. I chose to be the goalie.

We had a good team, but I still got shelled from time to time. I remember playing Billerica and almost going #2 in my pants because some monster 8th grader was ripping on me from 5 yards away. It went exactly like what happened to Jake at the 1:35 mark.

Tip of the hat to Jake for stepping it up to a new level, and taking on the big boys. Good luck this year!
