Before turning the page to a new decade,
ESPN RISE Magazine looks back on the most exciting and influential 10 years in the history of high school sports. A lot has happened over the past 10 years. A sophomore named LeBron James announced his arrival as the next big thing. Hoops stars headed to Europe after — and even before — receiving their diplomas. Some athletes spent their summer vacations winning gold medals. And one kid even sailed around the world.
Our man Brett Hughes just dropped me a line to announce that “The Rise of Lacrosse” has been selected by ESPN RISE as one of the top stories of the decade.
The reasoning?
Top recruits used to come out of the Northeast for the most part. The East Coast remains a hotbed for lacrosse, but states like Texas, California, Colorado, Florida and Washington have also emerged as lacrosse hotbeds. Now they’re producing big-time players, too.
Slated at #15, the full listing can be found here.
Also, check out the Top 10: Ten years of greatness and more to come. …All quality mentions if you ask me. Brett even touched on a few of them last week in his write-up about the NBA.
