‘Tis the season for playoffs and it is all the better because we were able to participate in them for the very first time in our program’s history and the game lived up to its potential. Despite not being in our favor, it was an intense Double OT thriller with plenty of pipes and potential game winners before Oregon State finally put it away.

Home field advantage in our first playoff appearance? I think so.

Even with the disappointing loss to BJC we were able to hold on to first place in our division and claimed the first round home game against Oregon State and we took full advantage of it. From Monday until Thursday we practiced every morning from 6-8 am getting in as much scrimmage time and real game pace to get ourselves as ready as possible for the game. Friday night we ran through a last minute walkthrough to get any last minute problems hashed out. Then there was nothing to do but to show up and play on Saturday.

Now for some game pics.

Ben Lavigne clearing the ball after stealing it from an OSU attackman.

Junior Bryce Oldemeyer pushes the ball up field against OSU.

OSU attackman Cooper McCabe and Sean Harrington battled it out all day.

Attackman Eric Fletcher drives to the cage on OSU defender Andrew Dirks, Fletch finished with 2 goals.

Freshman Dugan McDermott clears the ball against OSU.

Freshman Mykeal Wheeler had another outstanding day at the faceoff X, winning probably 80% of the draws.

Freshman Riley McNeal clearing the ball against OSU. Riley had a great game defensively.

Mmmm… Jumping high-fives. Is there anything better?

In a nutshell, it was another game where we jumped out to an early lead (5-1) and then watched it slip away. Oregon State played a great game and obviously locked it up in the second half, regaining momentum little by little and finally tying the game with around five minutes left, but we also made some stupid penalties to help them along the way.

All in all though, we had a great season and yet again, bettered ourselves from the year before.

Like any season we have had our up’s and down’s, but we stuck together and made it through them all. I will never regret the decisions I made to end up in this place and couldn’t be happier with how my collegiate lacrosse career went. Thanks for the memories fellas. Keep an eye on the Vandals in the years to come, they are going to keep getting better and become even more of a presence in the PNCLL. Keep up the hard work.
