Gotham Lacrosse: The Playoffs!

The Gotham Lacrosse League has been going strong up at Columbia University in New York City this summer.  The playoffs are well underway and the season is almost over.  Congrats go out to Zach Howell of Southampton for his 3g, 2a effort in Week 6 to take the Player of the Week award.  In week 7, Southampton suffered at the hands of goalie Anthony Katagas as he picked up the PotW with 20 huge saves in a 7-4 win.

Last week, Peter Trombino went for 3 goals and a helper to take the award as the playoffs got underway.  In the first round, Southampton took down Team Maverik to advance.  Gold Prop took down the Adeona Foundation and Teamitup.com brought the pain against Morgan Stanley.  Both CITI and Barclay’s won in upsets over Credit Suisse and Bank of America, respectively.  Sea of Green, MIAC and Team Maxim advanced with byes.

The above games were played on a Monday and the next round was played on… Tuesday.  Of the same week.  Brutal.  I was so sore from Tahoe and boned up at work that I missed both games.  Southampton lost to the second seed, MIAC, and we just didn’t have it in us – especially after the game the night before.  Gold Prop took out the 3 seed, Sea of Green to advance.  Teamitup took out CITI, and Team Maxim, the number 1 seed, kept it going with a win over Barclay’s.

it's only blurry because we're all moving so fast.

In the Semifinals the action kept up at a frenetic pace with Gold Prop making a late season surge and taking out MIAC.  Teamitup, which has a deep and talented roster made up mostly of ex-D1 players, took out the previously undefeated Team Maxim.  Evidently, the boys at Teamitup found a way to score on Maxim goalie, Anthony Katagas, which is something that every other team struggled to do all summer.

I’ll be at the Finals between Teamitup and Gold Prop to take some pictures and give the title game the love it deserves with top notch reporting.  Til then, it’s been a great summer of lacrosse and I can’t wait to do it all again next year when I’m even older, slower and hopefully, wiser.
