Music Monday: RIP Summer

Editor’s Note: There is so much great music out there, we decided to double our music offering to you. Each Monday, Michael Allen will take the morning detail, and Nate Fritts will continue to knock out the night hours. Everybody wins!

Today marks the end of my summer as I start fall classes once again at Boise State.   This week I thought I’d share some tracks from or featuring artists that have passed away.  So rest in peace summer and these following artists.  Their music will live on.

Nas Ft. Amy Winehouse – Cherry Wine

Hip-Hop would be dead if Nas passed away.   Thankfully Nasir Jones is alive and well and Hip-Hop has had a successfully year thus far.  Unfortunately the world lost the talents of Amy Winehouse two years ago but Nas was able to get her on the hook for “Cherry Wine” which was featured on his last album with Def Jam, Life is Good (2012).

Capital STEEZ –  King Steelo

Capital STEEZ passed away late last year at the age of 19.  His young conscious mind possessed wisdom beyond his years and he definitely had a bright future ahead of him.  Check out this track which was released after his passing.

The Doors – Peace Frog

Finally we have a song from The Doors who were never the same after losing legendary lead singer Jim Morrison.  Ray Manzarek, keyboardist for The Doors also filled in for Morrison after his tragic death.  Manzarek passed away earlier this year.

Thanks for checking out Music Monday and feel free to shoot me an email and let me know what you’ve been listening to. You might just see it on Music Monday next week!
