Editor’s Note: The Salt Shakerz recap their trip to Frederick, Maryland below!  But this weekend, they are hosting a HUGE 16 team tourney in NYC and LaxAllStars.com will be there PLAYING and REPORTING!  In true lax style, we’ll be doing both.  Check back often for updates and more!

The Shakerz headed south to Fredrick, Maryland for the 1st Freemason Lacrosse Tournament. The tournament was created with 2 goals: 1) raise awareness for the Masonic work in the Frederick, Maryland community 2) Provide a scholarship to the best high school applicant in Frederick.

The tournament is one of the primary fundraisers for that scholarship and creates a great opportunity to play lax and help raise money for a worthy cause. The Salt Shakerz participated in the 10 team Men’s Open Division.

Tournament Participants:
Tropic Thunder
Baltimore LC
Hagerstown Bud Light
Lumberjax
Team Rage
Natty Broh
FMLA
Duke’s LC
Barefoot Bernie’s
Blue Moon LC

The Salt Shakerz, based outta NYC, entered the tournament excited to see what lacrosse was all about in Fredrick, Maryland. In addition, the Shakerz picked up some new talent to participate in the event. Ken Blom, Jason Tosches, and Matt Mariani (Moravian College) as well as Brian Esernio (St. Joseph’s University) were among the new pick ups.  The boyz also picked up a new mascot, ‘Kevin” who was rockin’ official Shakerz swag.

The Shakerz went 2-1 during pool play, earning the #3 seed for the playoffs. Once in the playoffs, the squad kept winning and finished 5-1 for the tournament, winning the Men’s Open Division Championship after defeating a talented Tropic Thunder squad 9-7 in the championship game. The Shakerz were defeated by Tropic Thunder in a close game during the teams’ first meeting on Saturday morning.

Tropic Thunder came out strong in the rematch, and the game witnessed a few lead changes with neither team up by more than 2 in the first half. The Shakerz widened the gap to 6-3 with a couple quick scores to start the second half. From there, a fiercely competitive second half took place which included a number of standout plays by the Shakerz lead the team to victory.

Some standouts were:
– Amazing saves from goalies Burke Reynolds (Steven’s Tech) and JP Fragola (Penn State)

– Stitch rippin’ by Lafyette’s Sean Burek

– Plenty of dangle from Vermont’s Mike Maher

– Defensive dominance from James McGill (AACC) and Dave Campbell (Adelphi)

Thanks to the top notch play of these guys and a solid group effort, the Shakerz were able to lock-up their third tournament championship. Similar to LaxVegas, the boys took home a massive trophy to commemorate the occasion. Shout out to the Freemason Tournament Committee for hooking up the hardware.

The Shakerz MVP Award for the Freemason Tournament went to one of the squad’s dominating goalies, Burke Reynolds, who played out of his mind in the championship game. For his efforts, Burke earned a brand new, professionally strung, Brine Blueprint in florescent pink.
