Denver 2014 International Lacrosse Update 10

We are inching ever closer to the FIL World Lacrosse Championships in Denver (It’s in July), and therefore it’s time for another international lacrosse update! Rosters are being trimmed down to a final set of 23, numbers are being assigned, players are working harder than ever to prepare, and many fundraising efforts are nearing their final stages!

Links To Denver 2014 News

There is plenty of news for Denver! Here’s a good sampling of links. China asks for help to GTG. Sweden wins Scandinavian Challenge. 23 man roster? Canada trimmed theirs down to 24. It’s one more. Russia also cropped down their list, and they went down to the full 23. Iroquois Update with Cam Bomberry. Colombia needs your help to get to Denver!

Political Turmoil in Thailand

If you pay attention to the news, you have probably noticed that martial law has been declared in Thailand. Even with the changing geopolitical landscape, the TLA is still committed to participating in Denver this Summer. Expect a more detailed update from the TLA in the near future.

SWEET Turkey Fundraiser Ts!

I’m loving this T from PJ Martin and the UnCommon Fit crew for Turkey Lacrosse. I know all these guys, but that shirt is SHARP! Buy one and help a young Turkish lacrosse player make it to Denver. Well worth it!

Hungary Training Camp Opportunity

After four years of ups and downs, we here at the Hungarian Lacrosse Federation feel that there is finally a solid foundation to begin building a program that will be able to compete at a high level. The Hungarian National Team is looking to put a squad together to begin competition on the international circuit.

We will be holding a training camp on July 19th and 20th at Cabrini College in Randor, PA. The training camp will serve as a tryout for all interested players in the US and Canada that are looking to play with the Hungarian National Team in tournaments throughout 2015 as well as the European Championships in 2016. Sessions will run from approximately 9:30am to 5:00pm on Saturday and 9:30am to 3:30pm on Sunday.

The sessions will include conditioning drills, team practice, a scrimmage versus the Athletics Lacrosse Club out of Philadelphia, and discussion on future tournaments and international scrimmages. We are excited to have the head coach of the National Team, Jamie Lockard, along with other assistant coaches at the camp to evaluate players.

When asked about the training camp, Coach Lockard explained, “It’s been a long time coming and sometimes a rough road, but I am excited to see the talent that comes out.” Prior to the announcement of the training camp, we have received inquiries from players at all levels, from high school to professional.

While there is no cap on players for the camp, there is a limited supply of rooms available on campus reserved for the team: first come, first serve. There are also hotels nearby for after campus lodging is filled. Players flying in can get picked up from the airport on Friday night and dropped off Sunday after the camp. Lunch will be covered by the Federation for Saturday and Sunday.

A big thank you has to go out to our corporate partners, without whom this would not have been possible. Justin Lappen and Fourteen Graphics did an amazing job with our team reversible and he will be on the sideline checking out all the action.

We are absolutely stoked about the training camp and you all should be too. The deadline to register is June 1st, so if you’re interested in coming out for the camp, or have any questions, please email George Rohonczy, the team’s U.S. Representative, at HungarianLacrosse@GMail.com, or visit us online at HungarianLacrosse.com, on Twitter at @Hungary_Lax, and on Instagram at HungaryLax.
