Game Photos: Salisbury Escapes OWU 4-3

The Salisbury Gulls escaped with a 4-3 win at home over Ohio Wesleyan. After two quarters, OWU was up 2-1. Luke Phipps put SU up 1-0, 11 minutes in to the game, and then we saw a long scoreless period. OWU put up 2 in the 2nd quarter as Casey Helms assisted on the first goal (on the man up by Spencer Schnell), and scored the second (off a Colin Short feed).

Salisbury tied it up at 2 goals apiece with a man up goal of their own, as Luke Phipps notched his second of the day. Spencer Schnell then scored for OWU to put the Battling Bishops up 1.

Eric Kluge scored an unassisted goal with about 4:30 minutes left in the game, and then gave SU the go ahead goal with about two minutes left. Phipps, OWU, OWU, Phipps, OWU, Kluge, Kluge. Salisbury wins… barely.

Both goalies and defenses played well, but OWU’s keeper was phenomenal at times, in a rough and tumble game they easily could have won. The refs let a lot go, especially cross checks, and may have missed a few calls for both teams.

Attendance was announced at 724, but that doesn’t count the large crowd on the other side of the field that watches the games. Heckling was occurring on a first name basis, and this game had the intensity of a playoff battle.

Salisbury moves to 5-2 on the year, and takes on 4-1 York on March 13th. OWU takes on 4-0 Washington College on March 14th, and currently sits at 4-2.
