Music Monday: One Thing Leads to Another

Editor’s Note: With summer well underway, we wanted to up your weekly dosage of music, so we decided to double our music offering to you. Each Monday, Michael Allen will take the morning detail, and Nate Fritts will continue to knock out the night hours. Everybody wins!

This week’s morning Music Monday (how’s that for alliteration?) features some great songs that I unintentionally discovered in the last week. It shouldn’t matter how we come across music, just so long as we enjoy it.

Mayer Hawthorne Ft. Kendrick Lamar – Crime

https://youtu.be/FqBwzWMt6DI

Our first track is off Mayer Hawthorne’s new album, Where Does This Door Go, which was released last week. As a huge fan of Kendrick Lamar, I found this song while looking for new material from him. I didn’t even have to make it to Kendrick’s verse before liking this catchy Summer song. I think it goes without saying but if you manage to get Kendrick on your song, it’s going to be good.

Shabba Ranks – Ting-A-Ling

A$AP Ferg recently dropped a track entitled “Shabba” and I was curious as to where the title came from. It was named after none other than famous Jamaican dancehall artist Shabba Ranks. I always love finding an artist to add to my library. Shabba!

The Head and the Heart – Lost In My Mind

Lastly we have a song that a friend just shared with me. I know I gave you guys a good taste of some Northwest talent last week but this talented group from Seattle is too good not to share. Check out The Head and the Heart. I’ve enjoyed indie/folk music for some time but don’t explore the genre as much as I’d like to.

Thanks again for tuning in and feel free to sound off in the comments below.
