Kent Denver #16 in Under Armour/IL Power Rankings

The first in-season Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse High School Power Rankings were released today, and the only team representing West of the Mississippi was Kent Denver of Colorado.

Kent Denver was ranked the #1 team in the West in the most recent STX-WSL Top 25. According to West Side Lax, “This year’s squad brings back the Western United States’ No. 1 ranked player in senior Patrick Murray, and it is gunning to repeat as Colorado High School Activities Association state champion. The competition is strong, but until somebody knocks them off, the Sun Devils are WSL’s No. 1 team.

This makes me wonder: Are the Western United States REALLY still THAT far behind? Out of the TOP 25 lacrosse teams in the NATION, should there only be 1 team representing the Western region? Is there no team in California, Washington or Texas that can compete with these New England clubs?

If the answers to those questions are YES, then I completely understand why a lot of top West Coast talent try to go to boarding schools back East. Unless their like the Patrick Murray kid from Kent Denver or Will Yeatman, they’re SOL. Makes total sense. Riiight?
