NYC Box Lacrosse Week 2: KILLER PHOTOS!

Week 2 of outdoor NYC box lacrosse is in the books.  I’ll keep the post short and get to the photos as quickly as I can.  LAS lost its first game of box lacrosse EVER, and I’m still not sure what happened.  We were playing the Brooklyn Dodgers and doing well, up 6-3 in the second half (yeah, we play havles) and they went on a nice run to tie it at 6.  With a little less than 2 minutes left we went up 7-6, I went to catch my breath on the bench, put my head down for a minute, looked up, and we had lost 8-7.  Lesson learned.  Can’t sleep on Brooklyn.  We’ve got a double header next weekend and we’re going to be ready to go.

After the first game, the Manhattan Roller Hockey League got a game in, Brooklyn rested, and then they took on Dirt McGirt.  Brooklyn won 9-6 and has really been benefiting from the play of their keeper, Jeff Melnik.  Jeff takes up a good chunk of the goal, and has adjusted to the box game really well.  You definitely have to get him moving to put one by him.  Overall, Brooklyn’s biggest strength is that they just keep coming at you no matter what.  If you don’t sustain your effort for the entire game, they will, and you’ll probably lose.  Both Dirt and LAS learned that this weekend!

Now on to the photos!  Bill Schick (with whom I play Master’s Lacrosse) stopped by the game and snapped a couple casual shots just because he’s awesome, and of course, they turned out to be the best NYC box lax photos we’ve seen.  Bill’s a pro, what can we say!  He makes us look good out there!
