Traditional Thursday: Mesh Inspiration

This week’s Traditional Thursday is inspired by reading the first couple chapters of  Greg Rose’ book and watching Connor Wilson’s tear drop top string tutorial. I’ve been stringing a ton of traditional pockets lately and haven’t really gotten the chance to string a mesh pocket.

When I did decide to go back to mesh, I naturally thought about doing something where I can add a traditional touch to the pocket because, why not? At first glance, you will notice that this style top string raises the mesh above the plastic. This top string will keep the mesh sitting on the front side of the scoop and super tight to the top.

It is similar to a triangle top string, in that it will result in the ball not hitting off the plastic on your release. The only downside, as far as I can see, to having this style top string is that the string is running along the backside of the scoop and is more exposed to fraying and wear.

Thankfully, our friends over at Stylin Strings has a simple solution to that.

In case you missed it, here is the tear drop tutorial.

Bonus- If you like a lippy release and want to try this tear drop top on your head, I would suggest using a loose cotton shooter (instead of a nylon) up top and having your middle shooter or shooter below your highest one moderately tighter.
