NESCAC schools do not allow for fall ball with coaches. Similar to the Ivy league limiting coaching days to 12 or 14 in the fall.

Teams make up for it with captains' practices, somewhat unorganized intra squad scrimmages on random fields all over campus and wall ball, shooting, lifting and tailgating. the tailgating doesn't seem to mesh but we are talking about lax players here. some play multiple sports or focus on their academics. others go abroad and don't miss as much as they would if fall ball were on 100%.

I actually think that this is the best way to do it, but again, I'm biased. Kids can work as hard as they want in the fall and get a clean slate in the spring. it allows for dedication to anything... it is all up to the team.

don't you mean “vaunted” zone defense?

The zone is the bomb the way Wesleyan plays it. Sure, I'm biased from having played in it myself buy I always thought it was the best D you could run… NY Tech ran a similar zone for years but it only works at a high level if you have players that can both grasp the concepts AND be good players on their own.

What's the deal with Wesleyan and fall ball? Do all NESCAC not have fall ball?
