Football And Lacrosse: Friends With Benefits?

“When Summit takes the field at Giants Stadium on Thursday to take on Orange in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 2 championship game seeking its first title since 1994, it will do so with a dozen players who helped capture the school’s first Tournament of Champions title in boys lacrosse last spring

There are nearly 40 players involved at some level of both programs and having two such highly successful teams could create some conflicts at most schools. But just the opposite seems to be true at Summit, where football coach John Liberato and lacrosse coach Jim Davidson work closely together from scheduling team functions to developing a common year-round strength and conditioning program.”

This article might not seem like much to you Northeast lax bros, but this kind of cooperation between football and lacrosse coaches never ceases to amaze me.  In many developing areas the football coaches start bristling at the mention of lacrosse, let alone seeing the mutual benefits for both programs.

The growth of the sport hinges on youth participation, but many more doors will open if it markets itself to the football coaches who tend to dominate high school sports scenes around the country.
