Future Dictated By Faith

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!

…To one day walk upright enough as a man, to not let my past dictate my future; and let my future be dictated by faith.” – Ray Lewis

Today may be defined by yesterday. But tomorrow does not have to be. Tomorrow will be defined by today. Last month does not have to define next month. Who we were or what we did 10 years ago does not have to define who we will be 10 years from now. Thank God we get to grow and mature and become wiser. Thank God we have the opportunity to learn every single day, and learn from every single day.

Fortunately and unfortunately, we live in a “what have you done for me lately” type of society. The unfortunate part is that people sometimes forget what we have offered in the past. They sometimes forget our sacrifices, our outreach, our kind words, our efforts. But that means two things. First, it keeps us from resting on our laurels. The world won’t let us sit back and live on how great we were months ago. That doesn’t work in sports. It doesn’t work in relationships. It doesn’t work in the professional world. And secondly, as a result, it forces us to continually seek to be great in the present, because that can often “erase” some of our past. That’s not to say that we won’t be held accountable, or that people will forget every less than favorable act. But continuous acts of positivity, generosity, sacrifice, and love will be recognized in the moment. And it’s up to us to string those moments together.

If we don’t grow as people, we cannot expect that our present should be any different than our past. But if we have changed, if we have learned, if we have grown, then who we are in the present should reflect that growth. And that’s what the world will recognize.

Make it a GREAT day!

Stay blessed.
