Shootout for Soldiers 2013: 24 hours, 1 game, 1 goal

HUGE props to Tyler Steinhardt for his work for the Wounded Warriors project! It’s going on again this Summer, and it’s going to be bigger than ever! Check out the press release from Tyler below, and find a way to get YOUR team involved this year!

For the second straight year, a group in Baltimore aims to support wounded American troops through the organization of a 24 hour lacrosse game called the Shootout for Soldiers. Last year the Shootout for Soldiers raised over $120,000, bringing together over 1,000 different players in a record-breaking event at the beginning of the summer.

Expanding to add a women’s game as well, and shifting locations to McDonogh School to accommodate both more players and spectators, the Shootout for Soldiers aims to bring the Baltimore community together even more to help expand its impact on helping wounded service members. The event will begin on 9am on June 13th, and will finish on Flag Day, a full 24 hours later.

With an expected demand for spots, the event organizers have created two separate periods of registration, beginning with team registration through the end of March and then opening up to individual registration. The event will keep the same structure, featuring two teams for participants, Stars and Stripes; last year Stripes tallied 192 goals to 173 for Stars.

Stripes did receive strong coaching support from 2x MLL MVP Paul Rabil, who expressed his excitement for the event along with a number of other lacrosse personalities.

I’m very excited to be able to contribute to the Shootout for Soldiers event benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project. For the second year in a row, lacrosse will do what it does best – congregate as a strong community to build awareness and support for a great cause. This year, more teams will enter with the company of both men and women. I’m thrilled to have the chance to be a part of such a great event again. Please join me and show your support at the Shootout for Soldiers.

-Paul Rabil, Philadelphia Wings (NLL), Boston Cannons (MLL)

“It is encouraging to see this event continue to grow in support of our nations wounded warriors. Hopefully the young men playing in this game will appreciate their sacrifices for our freedom.”

-Richie Meade (Head Coach Furman University, Team USA)

Our service members sacrifice so much for our country, and I want to give back to them in anyway I can. The lacrosse community is truly unparalleled in its ability to come together for a good cause, and I deeply believe in the power sports has to do social good. I’m excited to be apart of this event again, and I hope that the local community will once again rally together to demonstrate our collective support for our nation’s bravest.
