Hot off the press:

Maverik’s Kip Turner Tapped for Brown U. Assistants Job

Long Island City, NY, October 21, 2010 — Maverik Lacrosse is proud to announce that Kip Turner, one of its soldiers/representatives and the 2010 MLL Goalkeeper of the Year with the Boston Cannons, has been chosen by Brown University’s men’s lacrosse coach Lars Tiffany to join his staff as an assistant coach.

“I am really looking forward to working with Coach Tiffany, his staff and helping his goalies take their game to the next level,” said Kip Turner.  “My role with the Bears is to facilitate any of the fundamental and technical aspects of their defense and help Coach Tiffany build a championship winning program.  We just completed a great recruiting weekend and it is amazing to see the quality of players who are interested in playing at Brown.  I am really excited about this opportunity and I am looking forward to helping the Bears bring home another Ivy League championship.”

Kip Turner is a natural leader and one of lacrosse’s premier goalies.  Kip was the starting goalie for three years at the University of Virginia where he helped guide the Cavaliers to two NCAA final fours, one NCAA national championship, one ACC championship, and was in-charge between the pipes for the only team in lacrosse history to post a 17-0 season.  Kip Turner’s dominance in goal garnered him All-American honors twice, a selection to the NCAA All tournament team, All-ACC and ACC-All tournament team honors his senior year to go with a Defensive MVP selection his junior year and a team MVP his senior year in 2007.

“The task of leading men bears great responsibility,” said Brown University men’s lacrosse coach Lars Tiffany.  “Talent and accolades alone cannot guarantee success: sincere care and passion for the program and its men are vital.  Kip has already proven to be a trusted mentor and insightful coach.  Combining this with his invaluable experience at the highest levels of championship lacrosse creates an exciting, promising young coach.  Brown Lacrosse is fortunate to have Kip Turner leading the charge.”

Kip Turner burst onto the outdoor professional lacrosse scene in 2008 when he was selected second overall in Major League Lacrosse’s draft by the Boston Cannons, the highest goalie ever picked in a draft.  In 2008, Turner continued to make a name for himself after being named the Cannons Defensive MVP and being selected once as the MLL goalie of the Week.  Turner’s hard work and determination was recognized in 2010 when he was named the MLL Goalkeeper of the Year and garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors in weeks six, nine and ten.

“I am really glad to see that Brown is giving Kip Turner the opportunity to share his knowledge between the pipes and instill his work ethic with the future stars of our sport,” said John Gagliardi, founder and President of Maverik Lacrosse.  “I am confident that Kip Turner will have an immediate impact on Coach Tiffany’s program and help the Bears reach their goal of an Ivy League championship.”
