UPDATED: Weekend Lacrosse Boombangerang

There are playoffs going on, people getting kicked off teams, new gear popping up left and right and more straight up lax action than you could ever comprehend.  Don’t worry, I can’t comprehend it all either.  That’s what makes it fun!  Let’s see what we can figure out…

The Big News – Shamel Bratton donezo at Virginia

This is going to be the news that everyone is talking about for the next X number of days.  And then it will come back up every time Virginia comes up.  I’ll keep this brief.  It’s clear that mistakes were made.  But this isn’t the end of the line for Shamel or Rhamel.  This isn’t the kind of thing you can’t come back from.  It can be a period in their lives where they learn something, and take something positive away from the experience, and that choice is 100% theirs.

So instead of focusing on what has happened, and what is done, I’m going to look forward, and hope that the Brattons can find their way back into the lacrosse community’s good graces.  It will take a lot of hard work, and a humble attitude, but it is certainly possible.  We wish UVA the best of luck, and we sincerely hope that Shamel and Rhamel are able to find success in the MLL, LXM or on the LaxAllStars.com club team, wherever they end up.  Lacrosse is secondary when talking about a couple of young men who are still in college.  I only hope that they are able to find a better balance between lax and life.

NLL Playoffs

They start this weekend.  It should be good!  Out East, Rochester travels to Toronto where Toronto will definitely win.  Boston travels to Buffalo. The Blazers won last week when these two teams played, but Buffalo will be ready this week, even without Brandon Francis.  Predicting a great game. Boston by 2.

In the West, Colorado will face Calgary and Colorado is clicking nicely later.  It won’t be enough.  Calgary wins by 4+.  Minnesota hosts Washington at the Hive and with Patterson in goal and Benesch up front, they’ve got a good shot at dethroning the Stealth. I like Washington by 1 or 2 though.

Update: So far, Buffalo beat Boston (I was wrong there, although it was a great game!), Calgary won and Washington won.  2 out of 3 so far!  Rochester takes on Toronoto at 330pm on Sunday. Game can be watched in TSN2 in Canada or NLL Network in the States.

NEW GEAR

I have more new gear to review at my apartment than I know what to do with.  Over the next couple of weeks expect a lot of info on some new products soon to hit the market.  Shafts, heads, gloves… it’s getting serious.  There is also a custom LAS HeadWrapz that is going to blow your mind.  I’m looking at it right now and I might have to stop writing now.  That’s how blown my mind is.

Big DIII Games

The NESCAC regular season wrapped up today.  Wesleyan and Conn College combined for 21 goals, and even Jac Coyne was surprised.  So was I.  Scoring explosion for two zone heavy teams.  Amherst beat Trinity 8-6.  Tufts plays Bowdoin tonight.  In the Centennial, Gettysburg beat Haverford, and now I have no idea what’s going on down South outside of Stevenson and Salisbury.  Great.   Adrian – Carthage is going on right now and that game could decided Adrian’s tourney fate.  They need to win.

MCLA Games

There are simply more MCLA games than I could ever digest.  A couple of interesting ones for sure, but I’ll focus on Briarcliffe – Stonehill in the MCLA Division 2.  I’m predicting a blowout for Briarcliffe, even though they only run about 24 guys deep.  Just wait for more on these guys… coming soon!
