The Duke University men’s lacrosse team joins an elite group as back-to-back NCAA D1 lacrosse champs after defeating Notre Dame 11 to 9 for the 2014 Title. It was an impressive team effort, and from the get go, Duke looked poised and ready to play.
The Blue Devils raced out to an early lead and then weathered a ferocious Notre Dame storm that could have turned ugly if it weren’t for team play. Many thought it took Notre Dame some time to get going, but I think the credit really goes to Duke’s defense, which played some of the best on ball defense of the year.
When there were slides, Duke moved with precision, and limited chances quickly. Only when Notre Dame forced the issue later in the game, and on broken plays, could the Irish put goals away. That being said, the Irish managed to do both well, and it was a one goal game late in the contest.
Congratulations to Duke University — back-to-back NCAA D1 lacrosse champs!
