Gloves offer a lot of new technologies that are relevant. Gloves resist bacteria and mould now and they also don't soak up water mid-game.

More importantly, there are dozens of options that cater to different hand sizes and preferences. My first pair of STX fusions were not big enough for my hands and I got better when I replaced them. You can get a glove that fits your hand the way you want it to. Whether that means the thumbs are big enough or that the glove fits tight at first and breaks in to the fit of the owners hand, the player decides. It's a sign of game growth in my opinion.

Retail prices on gloves are a completely different mess.

I can compare the 2009 STX Stingers to the Warrior Tempos. the tempos are just a glove with some foam over the backhand, while the stingers actually help protect the hand a bit. I think I might check out those old gloves from SA.

I'm aware of the cheap models out there, but are they as flexible, comfortable, and/or offer the same protection as the high end models? If they do, why make super expensive gloves?

I remember those gloves from back in the day. While I think gloves have gotten better, the price has gotten a little out of control. I understand you are paying for the material used, but if the goal is to grow the game, the equipment cost can be off putting to start up teams.
