Gotham Lacrosse League – Summer Preview!

Gotham Lacrosse League - Summer Preview! This summer 3 of your favorite LAS reps (Wheniwasakid, Mr. Blue Sky and Striding Man) will be playing in the Gotham Lacrosse League in New York City for the Southampton Brewery team.

The Gotham League is by far and away one of the top men’s summer leagues in the entire nation and draws heavily on the local financial services sector for talent. Banking companies like Barclay’s, Credit Suisse, Citi, Morgan Stanley and Bank of America all put together very good squads that compete with teams like Teamitup.com, the Adeona Foundation and Southampton Brewery. The talent ranges from current college stars like Billy Bitter of UNC and Tom Petty of Middlebury to ex-MCLA guys like Jack Watson of Ft. Collins to absolute LEGENDS of the game like John Hess and Chris Massey of Princeton.

The games are played on the Northern tip of Manhattan at Columbia’s athletics facility located in Inwood on 218th Street. There are 3 turf fields that host game action with games beginning at 7pm and 830pm on Tuesday nights for a total of 12 games per week. The league is primarily sponsored and run by Maverik Lacrosse, which is based in Long Island City, Queens. Maverik is a young lacrosse company but was started by John Gagliardi and now sponsors the likes of players Johnny Christmas, Stephen Berger, Sean Lindsay, Kyle Sweeney and Paul Rabil. While these guys don’t play in the league because of MLL commitments, the guys who they just barely beat out for MLL roster spots are playing so the level of competition is truly top-notch. The rosters are littered with past and current college All-Americans, ex-MLL and ex-NLL players, no-name nobodies who can straight up ball and summer league/club legends.

As the summer progresses we will make sure to get some new photos up to really show you, LaxNation, what the league is like as well as posting updates on how Southampton is doing. Should be a great summer of NYC lax!
