James Franco, Lacrosse Star

Captain Smirky

While reading a review of the Oscars in the Washington Post, Jumbo Jack came across this profound statement in regard to lacrosse players everywhere:

As for your hosts, Hathaway worked her derriere off and Franco came off like that lacrosse boy you wish your daughter didn’t hang out with so much, sort of heavy-lidded and smirky and … well, let’s give him credit for being James Franco, the 23-hour-a-day workaholic/grad student/filmmaker/soap-opera/not-Best Actor wunderkind of his generation.

Is that a backhanded compliment?! I know what you’re thinking, but wait. Read it again. They’re saying he looked a little bored and a little less zealous than expected. But isn’t that just because he’s awesome? Like a real lacrosse player?

Hank Stuever over at the Post may just be stuck in the old ways of the Oscars, because Captain Franco (you know he’d be a team leader) seems to already be ten steps ahead of him. I bet you no one on the Post’s staff expected to see this on Oscar night:

But hey, I’m not here to call out the Post. I’m here to show you that Franco actually does have the makings of a lacrosse star.

Is that a Vermont Original he’s wearing?!

And if those three examples aren’t enough for you, 412 Lax already found a photo of Franco rocking lax gear earlier this month!

I for one enjoyed the Oscars for the first time ever last night. Okay, I admit it was also my first time ever watching, but that’s beside the point. If the quote above, The Hills and LXM PRO have taught us anything, it’s that lacrosse and pop culture go together like scrambled eggs and toast. Whether you or I like it or not, that’s just the way it is!
