Slovak Lacrosse: 10 Years of Growth

Have we ever mentioned that we love seeing lacrosse grow across the globe? Because we do.

This morning in our travels of the interwebs, we ran across this great video of some Slovak Lacrosse action. At just over two minutes and thirty seconds, you have no reason NOT to watch how much our sport has grown around the world.

A lot can happen in 10 years, Slovak Lacrosse is proof of that. After seeing the video above, we wanted to see what else we could dig up. We found this gem of the ‘beginnings of Slovak Lacrosse’, this may just be actual footage of their first ever organized practice in 2003.

Just five years later in 2008 they were at the European Lacrosse Championship, then the World Lacrosse Championships in 2010, the Indoor World Championships in 2011, the 2012 European Lacrosse Championships, and are now preparing for a trip across the pond for the World Championships coming up in 2014.

We absolutely love to see stuff like this! From a handful of guys playing wall ball, to an very solid looking squad competing in international tournaments.

Good luck gentlemen, keep growing!

A little extra info on Slovakia from our Connor Wilson: Bratislava is the capital of the country, and the Bratislava Bats play box lacrosse against the Czech teams, and other nearby countries. I’ve been fortunate enough to play against Bratislava at the Ales Hrebesky. Hockey is big there, so the transition to box is a relatively natural one. They have more younger people playing now, and are rapidly improving. If they can get participation numbers up, and get kids starting younger, there is real potential there.
