Playing Through The Whistle

Happy Friday, ladies and gentlemen!

As young athletes we’re always told to play through the whistle. Coaches look at us crazy (occasionally lose their minds) when, during practice, we just stop in the middle of a play. Usually, when we stop in the middle of a play it’s because we’re not fully engaged in the practice. We’re tired mentally or physically, we’re not focused, or we don’t think it’s a big deal, or some combination thereof. None of those three is excusable. It’s imperative, for the benefit of ourselves, our teammates, and our collective success that we always go hard. Injuries also occur when some people are going full speed, and through the whistle, and others are not.

Today is Friday. We probably have every reason in the world to be exhausted, mentally and physically. We have every reason in the world to not be as focused as we could be, or as we were Monday or Tuesday. We have every reason in the world to slack a bit, because … “It’s Friday.” But good reasons are not the same as acceptable excuses. If we allow ourselves to slow up, we cheat ourselves of the benefits of the day. We may hold back somebody else’s progress. And there could be detrimental consequences as a result of our lack of focus and persistence.

Don’t slow up today. It’s not the weekend just yet. Play through the 5:00 (or whatever time) whistle! Finish the play!!

Make it a GREAT day, and a GREAT weekend!

Stay blessed.
