In regards to the link to the story about Memphis.... I am the president of a state university club team and we have the exact same problems as the Memphis team.

It is one of the most frustrating things in the world trying to justify to your players to fork over $600 a year to play lacrosse for a team that can't even secure field space for practice. There have been times where we've had to deal with a practice space that is no larger than 40' by 40', surrounded by ultimate frisbee players and international pick-up soccer all-stars. We can't force these students off because they are students and have as much a right to field space as we do, but we are presented literally no options in terms of renting field space for practice at a fair price.

We've been a nationally competitive team for the past four years, but I can't imagine staying that way if conditions like these continue to persist.

The worst part is that club sports can be used as such a draw for certain students. You can't pitch a fully-fledged club sports program to prospective students when you don't get any support from the University.

And don't even get me started on how high you have to jump to get team apparel that is fairly priced and approved by the University... 10x more frustrating...
