Great, great article. Ask any D1 coach and they'll all probably tell you that they still label him as priority #1. Also, the so called "step" that Bitter seemed to lose as a Junior was probably due to the sports hernia (confirmed) he suffered as well as the torn muscle in his hip (confirmed); both of which he played with and through all of last year. You make a great point though, Connor; sleep on him for a second, and he'll make you look foolish and on SportsCenter's Top 10 the next morning!

Watching this kid play, I don't think that hit by Malphrus ever effected him. He gets knocked down late 4 times and will go back into the teeth of the defense the next play like he hasn't been hit all game. He's also one of the most humble and scrappiest attackmen in the game (check out his GB stats); which is admirable. What he means/does for that Carolina team goes far beyond his PPG.

Bitter didn't seem to be his usual self in the first half of the televised Maryland game either. I still would never count this player out. He has some of the best tools to be successful on the field as much as anyone in the game.

Not all LSMs are sissies who don't want to/can't scrap, Coach. I can't challenge that he's mentally tough and mean. That's what drew me to follow him. What I can challenge is the value of a guy when there are aggressive and skilled LSMs that spend less time in the sin bin in a season than he does in a game. Ultimately, I don't care how mean and tough you are. If you're setting your team up to play a lot of man down on stupid penalties, you're not helping your team.

Malphrus wants to be in Delta Force. I'll take his mental toughness and pure meanness in exchange for penalty mintues over a soft LSM that isn't going to stick his nose in anything.

Quasi off-topic, but I REALLY dislike Malphrus' style of play. I can appreciate being aggressive, but that guy racks up penalty minutes like no other. I think of a guy like Chris Passavia by comparison as an extremely aggressive risk taker who still has some amount of control with his stick and body. Watching Malphrus is disappointing from what I read about him coming out of Prep. I wonder how his history of back problems factors into things.

I agree that Bitter has adapted to be the player that UNC needs him to be. The hit may have something to do with it, but I lean towards him being a team player.

And yeah, it's a lock he signs up with Maverik. And I like that a lot for some reason.
