GMODT’s Music Monday Featuring Issac Hayes

Mention Issac Hayes to people of a certain age and the two reference points you get are probably the “Shaft” theme song and the voice of Chef on South Park. While both those things are pretty great, Issac Hayes had a lot of quality music that doesn’t really fit a specific recognizable niche. These excellent tunes sometimes slip through the cracks but I’m here to make sure they get some recognition.

I recently rediscovered Hayes when I picked up last weeks GMODT selection, the El Michels Affair, and their tribute album to him. Dude combined R&B, jazz, funk and movie soundtrack strings to make his own unique sound that stood out from the rest of the early 1970’s scene. Although he may be in the Super Adventure Club in the sky now, we can still appreciate the music he left behind.
