They key to lacrosse (and any other sport for that matter) is balance. If you get a balance of players i.e. Some big strong long dodging middies, with some great off ball movers, some shifty dodging attackman, with some strong finishers, this gives you the best of all the worlds and allows you to adapt in various ways to what defenses are trying to do much easier than if you have all of one "type" of player/athlete.

DEAD ON!! As someone who coaches high school kids during the summer (and a college club team during the spring), I try to create well-rounded lacrosse players with solid lax IQs and strong fundamentals. For the last 5+ years, all college coaches have talked about is that they want athletes...NOT lacrosse players. They also need to rethink that strategy as well. You can not have a well rounded, smart, good off-ball player without them being lacrosse players. Sure, they can be athletic lacrosse players...but if they want the complete package, they HAVE to be lacrosse players and not just athletes.
It's interesting that Coach Lasagna is now taking this stand, because he has also written an article in the past year about how all of the coaches out for the summer recruiting 'tour' are all looking for the next Paul Rabil...which is now exactly what he is not looking for. The good thing is that if Coach Lasagna is changing what he is looking for, then maybe the rest of the college lax world will too.
