Ales Hrebesky Memorial: Semifinals

Editor’s Note: Alex Scriffiano will be assisting me this week in covering the Ales Hrebesky Memorial, and for his first dispatch from Prague, he hits all the required details. See how the 20th anniversary tournament is shaping up already. I (Connor) leave tonight, arriving tomorrow.

Another eventful day of box lacrosse from Prague is in the books. Lets take a look at what transpired and see how my predictions panned out.

Quarterfinal #1, LCC Radotin v. Pioneers– I had the home team winning a tight match. Result: Radotin, 9-5

Quarterfinal #2, Love you to Death v. Boston Megamen– I did not make a pick on this game since I’m playing for the Megamen. Results: Megamen 6-3

Quarterfinal #3, LCC Wolves v. Green Gaels– I had the Gaels by a mile. (1.61 kilometres). The wolves played tough and continued to surprise the crowd. They fought ’til the end, but at the final buzzer, it was the Gaels on top 9-3

Quarterfinal #4, Nova Scotia Privateers v. London Knights– Initially I did not give the Knights very much credit. This match was tightly contested in the last few minutes when Scotia finally pulled ahead. The knights are a scrappy squad and are vastly improved from years past. Results: Privateers 8-5.

So, how did I do? 3 for 3. That’s 100%. Take that Rhino!

Tomorrow the finals will take place at 8 pm, right after the two semi final games are played.

Semi Final #1 Green Gaels v. LCC Radotin
This is another almost too close to call match-up. The Gaels have been strong all tourney and were an early favorite to win it all. Radotin continued their strong team play and was aided by a raucous home crowd in the semi’s. This will be a game to watch.

Semi Final #2 Nova Scotia Privateers v. Boston Megamen
These teams had similar quarter final win stories. The final scores were not indicative of how much each controlled play. I expect this game to be fast and physical. These teams have a history of playing each other hard over the past couple of years, and that should continue. Wherever you are tomorrow, get to a computer and watch this one. You’ll be sorry if you miss it.
