On September the 28th the new Italian lacrosse season begins with the Italian Cup and the collaboration between Lacrosse All Stars and Coach Cibe starts again. I hope everyone is ready to lax and to follow Coach Cibe’s news from Italy.
Italian lacrosse is developing fast and many things happened during the summer break so let’s take a look at what’s going on:
ITALIAN CUP
The Italian Cup will be the first official tournament of the year in Italy and will be held over the weekend of September the 28th and 29th. Six teams from Milano, Merate, Torino, Bologna, Perugia and Rome will meet in Nettuno (Rome) to fight to succeed Red Hawks Merate in the FIGL almanac of the Italian Cup. Some of the teams are still building their rosters, so the results of the match will be very uncertain as teams are yet to discover the full strength of their opponents.
ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
The Italian Federation has released the game schedules for the 2013/2014 Italian Championship. The same teams from the Italian Cup and the “strangers’” team from San Marino will play a home and away round trying to succeed Bocconi Sport Team (Milano) after “back to back” victories in the 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 championships.
First match of the championship will be on October the 6th between Bocconi Sport Team and San Marino Titans.
NEW TEAM IN TUSCANY
Tuscany: a region known in the whole world for good food and fine wine and great views and soon, we hope, for lacrosse! Actually a new team is being born in Prato (about 20 kilometers from Florence) and will be officially presented on September, the 25th in the presence of Steven Whitford, president of Italian Lacrosse Federation and Davide Miniscalco player key developer of the new team. We hope the team will be ready to participate in the next sporting season. So, let’s welcome Prato Grizzlies!
NEW ASST. COACH FOR NATIONAL TEAM
Italian team head coach, Pete Delisser, has chosen his first assistant coach: Jason Lamb, present Southern Virginia University and former Notre Dame, Adams State College, Denver Outlaws, Brigham University and USA West in Berkley.
Both coach Pete and coach Jason will be present at the Italian Cup in Nettuno to study the local players with an eye on the 2014 Denver World Championships.
