Game Photos: UMass Knocks Off No. 9 Ohio State

A young UMass Minutemen squad took down #9 Ohio State in Jacksonville, Florida last night and our main man, Tommy Gilligan, was on the scene snapping photos. UMass looked tough from the first minute and when OSU made a run to tie things up in the fourth quarter, UMass showed some solid composure, pulling out the 12-11 win in OT.

Zach Oliveri made a serious save on Jesse King with less than a minute less left in regulation. King caught the ball on the crease and tried to go behind his back, but the UMass keeper knocked it down with his body, keeping good position.

UMass took over, called time out with 24 seconds left, and got a shot off with less than second left after a hectic GB scrum and failed clear by OSU.

The Buckeyes got the first possession in OT and got another great chance, but once again Oliveri got a piece of the ball. OSU’s next chance was saved outright, UMass cleared the ball, called timeout, and drew up some offensive magic. OSU had seemingly stifled UMass when Nick Mariano came around from behind using a pick play. He put one top shelf and that was the game. 12-11 UMass in OT. It was his fourth of the game, and it’s showing how much UMass loves their youngsters!

UMass is now 2-0 and hosts Harvard on February 22nd. OSU drops to 0-2 and faces Marquette at home. That game is also on February 22nd.
