Music Monday: The Nemo Edition

Editor’s Note: Please welcome Nate Fritts to the Lacrosse All Stars! After spending a lot of time with Nate on the Rhino Lacrosse Camp Tour a couple summers back, we quickly came to respect his passion for all things music and immediately knew he would be our man for Music Monday. Nate hales from Portland, Oregon, played at Bowdoin College (NESCAC) in Maine, and now resides in Boston, MA where he researches concussions and brain diseases when he’s not laxing.

This week LAS brings you a short and sweet Music Monday to celebrate the east coast’s weathering of the infamous Nemo: one bumping dubstep jam and one twangy folk rock song for the road.

Big Gigantic and Griz – “Power”

These two master-mixers have collaborated to bring you this womp-womper of the week. Who could ask for a better warm-up/lifting/twine-ripping/amp city theme song than this? As far as dubstep goes, these two work in a more diverse set of instrumentation: an interesting fact is that Big Gigantic’s producer Dominic Lalli also plays the sax and you will hear some of his original contributions to this banger throughout the progression. Be sure to check out the rest of their work or catch Big Gigantic’s spring tour in the States.

Check it out on iTunes here.

Blitzen Trapper – “American Goldwing”

This next bus tune comes from one of my favorite bands, Blitzen Trapper, who has cascaded onto the national music scene from my hometown of Portland, Oregon. I had the recent pleasure of seeing BT in concert out here in Boston, which was a nothing less than moving experience. The band gained early popularity with hits like “Furr” and “Black River Killer,” but I got the sense that many ears had missed their recent American Goldwing, which released in 2011. The album flows with a lot of their traditional indie-folk-rock, with a few new tracks that jam out with electric guitar solos. Both this single and the album are worth your time if you like that woodsy rock feel and the sound of a good old harmonica to shake things up.

Check it out on iTunes here.

Also, if you like Blitzen Trapper and want some further listening, be sure to check out lead-singer/do-everything man Eric Earley’s edition of Deschutes River Recordings, sponsored by Deschutes Brewery:
