The Totally Awesome (And Totally Fake) National High School Tournament

westislipA few weeks ago we featured a story on The Gilman School, congratulating them on their defacto national championship.  NOT SO FAST GILMAN!  Turns out Laxpower doesn’t want to give that title away so easily.

Instead, they have thrown every team in to a theoretical 64 team tournament.  How does one get in to this tournament? The champion from every state was given a birth, along with the remaining 24 highest ranked teams in LaxPower’s database.

From there, each matchup was voted on by four members of the Laxpower team, with the computer casting a tie-breaking vote. Gilman still has a good chance of taking home the title, but they will have to get by West Islip, NY in today’s championship game.

In all I think this is a fun idea, but I take issue with the fact that not a single West Coast team made it past the second round.  Even then only Arapahoe (Colorado) and St. Ignatius (California) made it that far.  My side of the country deserves a little more love than that!
