Two-Handed Canadians? Oh No!

I’m not saying that Canadian players are always one-handed players, but more often than not they have a true strong hand, and a weaker hand. With Brent Noseworthy, that might be true as well, but I’m having a hard time telling which one is which! Is he a lefty or a righty? Honestly, I can’t really tell.

Of course then you look at the rest of the tools Noseworthy seems to possess, and the two-handedness becomes just one of many positives about this 2015 midfielder:

Good size. At 6’3″ and 195 pounds, Noseworthy is built to succeed on a D1 lacrosse field. He uses his size well in dodges to get defenders out of position, and then he splits them up, or dodges to space. He’s not just crushing people, or running around them. When he gets to college and players are bigger and faster, this will come in handy.

He’s tough. He drops a couple big hits in the video, takes some good shots from defenders, and grinds it out on some face offs. Plus he’s Canadian.

He can take face offs! So Noseworthy is big, two-handed, hits hard, dodges nicely, AND he takes face offs, where he can push the ball forward quite nicely? This is almost unfair.

Really solid IQ. I love the run of play at the 1:45 mark. Noseworthy gets involved in setting a pick, then checks his speed to let the ball get to X, where he gives a little burst, and then finishes on the crease. This young man has DEFINITELY played a bit of box! It shows. The ensuing play also shows a high IQ, and good patience.

The biggest area of improvement for Noseworthy seems to be improving his speed, but that is something that can be worked on as an athlete matures, especially if they have a big frame and can make athletic moves, as Noseworthy has proved he can do. The other two aspects of Noseworthy’s game that I’d like to see more of in video form are passing/feeding, and defense.

Noseworthy does drop a couple sweet assists in the video, and I’m sure he’s more than capable, but I don’t get a great sense of his feeding game from the film. Defense for midfielders is rarely shown in highlight clips, but I definitely want to see a lot more of that nowadays, as the pure O-mid is not as prevalent as it used to be, and Noseworthy could be out there after taking a face off.

Overall, Brent Noseworthy looks like a lock to see success at the next level. He uses both hands nicely, possesses excellent size and athleticism, and he can shoot the lights out of the ball. With his stick skills, and ability to face off and push transition, he’s got to be a hot commodity if he’s not committed already. Is this guy a FoGo? Nope, he’s a an all around midfielder, and a darn good one at that.
