Hot Pot: Lacrosse On Vacation

I’m on vacation this week in Puerto Rico, and sometimes you just need a break from it all. I’ve now been to Puerto Rico more times than I can count, and it’s definitely a place where I feel at home. I get to use reacquaint myself with the Spanish language, the weather is always nice, and I usually find a way to work some lacrosse into the trip as well. Let’s talk about Lacrosse on Vacation!

When you go on vacation, or go visit family, it can seem like lacrosse has to stop altogether, but I’m here to tell you, that’s just not true.

There are a ton of things you can do to keep a stick in your hands, the only limit is your imagination.

If you’re driving somewhere, you can easily add two sticks to the packing list. Pack ’em up, bring a couple of balls, and get ready for an adventure. If you’re in a city or town, find a brick wall, and introduce yourself. If you’re out in the middle of nowhere, find a rock and do the same.

If you are flying somewhere, it can harder to bring full size sticks along with you. Mini sticks are always an excellent option to overcome this problem! Take the head off the shaft, cut the shaft down so it fits in your bag, and pack up your gear. Bring a ball or two, or pack a tennis ball. It’s worth it to have a stick in your hands, and you can bring it to the beach, or play a little tropical wall ball.

Now if you get really lucky, you’ll find an old stick on vacation, so always bring some string with you just in case! If you’re REALLY lucky, you’ll find an old wooden stick. Maybe you can even shoot some skeet with it?

No matter what you’re doing when you travel, you CAN find a way to get in some lacrosse IF you want to. It’s up to you, so get out there in the world and spread the lacrosse gospel through your actions. You might even make a friend who is doing the same. It’s happened before!
