Margarita Machine: The Margarator! Today was its maiden voyage and its skipper Jameson made a mean marg, Rooting for the Terps.

The flames: Guys name was Rudy, rooting for Hopkins and he was heating up the coals for some chicken wings and Hot Dogs.

Mimosas: Didn’t catch their name but they were rooting for Hopkins, and Loyola and didn’t care who won the game between the MD and Duke. They hate “eating club dandies of Princeton, NJ” and that’s a fact.

Had a nice chat with Baltimore City Police Commissioner Frederick Bealefeld III. The Commissioner wants to use lacrosse as a tool to combat gang violence and the Baltimore City Police Dept. is teaming up with the Parks & People Foundation to present the Baltimore Middle School Lacrosse League.
Currently they’re able to outfit 8 teams but their goal is to have 20 teams within 3 years. The police force is drawing on the many officers who have lacrosse experience as well as local college and professional players to help them spread the game. When I asked him why he thought so many former players continue to give back to the game, the Commissioner told me that when players are teaching what comes across to their students is how important the team mentality is in the sport. It’s this respect for the hard work of their teammates that motivates former players to spread the game.

Princeton vs. Hopkins:

Talked with Andy Bilello, Director of Business Development for Inside Lacrosse. IL got the idea for their events from the old college football kickoff classic, various b-ball season tip offs, etc. Ticket sales haven’t been too affected by economy. Part of the purpose of the event is to note the kick off of the season.
– About sponsorships: events like this have really started to show the value of the lacrosse audience, not only have traditional sponsorships remained strong, but new ones have popped up.
– They want to help expand the sport through these types of events.
– About Potential IL events out West: they want to do something but what that something is they don’t know at this point. NFL stadiums really lend legitimacy to the sport.
– On the success of this event: It’s been so successful that other venues are trying to get lacrosse events at their facilities.
