Loyola 21 – Lafayette 4: Photos, GIF, Recap

Loyola has been nothing short of dominant in Patriot League play so far. The Hounds had a tight game with Army last week (winning 7-6), but they beat Holy Cross 16-4, and took down Lehigh 14-7. In their most recent Patriot League contest they dominated the Lafayette Leopards, 21-4, which puts them at a perfect 4-0 in conference.

Loyola’s only loss of the year was a 14-13 OT loss to UVA to open the season. Since then the Hounds have rattled off eight straight wins (one in OT, and 3 one goal games overall). The Loyola attack trio of Justin Ward, Nikko Pontrello, and Brian Schultz combined for 12 goals, and all three players notched four apiece. Brian Sherlock had three goals and two assists and Romar Dennis had 2 goals. Four other Loyola players notched single goals. Ward also added 4 assists for an 8 point game. The Loyola offense was really clicking on all cylinders in this one. Of Loyola’s 21 goals, 15 were assisted.

Lockdown defender Joe Fletcher even got into the scoring action on a transition play. He sure does look excited! I know I felt the same way whenever I scored as a pole. It’s fair for Fletcher to be pumped, as this is actually his FIRST career goal. Congrats to Joe Fletcher on that!

The scoreboard wasn’t the only place where this game was uneven. Loyola picked up 52 GBs, but Lafayette only snagged 22. To be out GB’d by 30 is NEVER a good thing. Loyola dominated face offs as well, and Lafayette did not get a ton of shots on cage in general. More often than not, the shots resulted in saves for Loyola.

Here are some excellent additional photos from the game:

8-1 Loyola heads to Colgate on March 29th, while 1-6 Lafayette takes on Mercer on the same day.
