Summer Tournament Series: Lax Heaven In Jamaica

rasta_sock

I don’t know anyone who has ever played in the Jamaica Lacrosse Tournament but after a quick look at the website I really want to go. The tournament really has two major draw points. The first is that it benefits a local school and I’m all for supporting education through lacrosse and having a good time. The other draw is pretty obvious: the tournament is in December and it takes place in JAMAICA!

The tourney directors have gone so far as to get hooked up with a travel agent who will take care of everything and the whole trip seems to be more or less all-inclusive, laxwise at least. No need to rent cars as they have shuttle busses, no need to find a golf course because the travel agent will hook that up too and no need to find a bar because the hotel has them and you’re right on the beach!

jamaica_laxThe 2009 tourney is spread over a three day period from December 4th through the 6th. Last year the tourney was attempted but there wasn’t the neccessary response to really get it going. It looks like the organizers are trying to step it up this year and get some real games going. If you’re interested in sending a team “down by the beach” email Matt Holman at matt@emwlacrosse.com

On a related to Jamaica note, Hakeem Lecky, who was born and lived on Jamaica until the 6th grade is headed to ‘Cuse.  To read more check out his story here.
