That’s right folks, pro field lacrosse is less than three weeks away. Just 18 days from now, Major League Lacrosse kicks off its 2012 season.
By adding two new teams (Ohio and Charlotte), the MLL was also able to extend their season a bit, and now opening weekend will be at the very end of April, as opposed to mid-May like it was last year.
MLL teams have been getting together for Training Camp, and we’re starting to see some footage emerge, which always gets me excited. The Boston Cannons are already hard at work, and it’s always good to start with the champs from 2011!
Paul Rabil and many of the veterans made it out for camp. They were joined by a number of prospective players hoping to make the team.
I actually played for Steve Duffy, the Cannons Head Coach, back in high school during the Bay State games one summer. I’m glad to see he hasn’t lost the Boston accent. Rabil rocks a Red Bull helmet. You can see Tufts and Middlebury helmets out on the field too. Where is Wesleyan at? The boys look good early!
With the re-expansion of the MLL, I’m excited to see if the new teams can compete right off the bat. I think both Ohio and Charlotte have talent, but I’m curious if either team will be able to amass any depth. Stars are good, but you need about 20 guys who can all get it done to make it through a full season. We know they’ll have a couple lacrosse all stars! Can these new squads fill the 12-20 spots?
And finally, the Denver Outlaws are clearly excited for lacrosse to start up! Their first 2012 commercial has already hit the interwebz.
And to cap things off, the Lizards will play Charlotte in some scrimmage action in Brooklyn, NY! Very cool.
So are YOU excited for the MLL to start up? Did you know that the season was less than 3 weeks away? Who is going to take home the Championship THIS year?
