MCLA Fan Upset of the Week

[Lead in photo borrowed from Michigan State 24/7 Sports]

With the MCLA season a few weeks in, we are starting to form a good picture of who will be a top dog and who will have to fight for every scrap they can get. Beginning this week, through the end of the regular season, we will pick one major upset for each division in the MCLA, then ask you which upset you think will be most likely to happen.

MCLA D1

To start things off, I am going right for the top 5 to a game that would cause a big splash in the polls. The only reason I am even picking this is because of the fact that no one knows how good or bad one of the teams even is – #11 Michigan State over #1 Colorado State.

Call me crazy, but as I just mentioned, no one knows how Michigan State is looking this year except for the Spartans. This is prime real estate for an upset.

We all know how Colorado State looks, the defending National Champs, off to a dominating 7-0 start. They’ve outscored their opponents 59 points so far and are well on track to head to Greenville and defend their title. They have a huge target on their back and will continue to get everyone’s ‘best game’ as the season draws on.

But why Michigan State?!

Why? Because Michigan State hasn’t played a game yet and will get to start off with a bang in having three games in three days. They will begin with Minnesota-Duluth on Friday, take on Colorado State on Saturday, then finish up with Illinois on Sunday.

Minnesota-Duluth and Michigan State should be a great game that should be well contested by both teams and no matter the outcome, could set the Spartans up for success on Saturday.

Colorado State hasn’t traveled exceedingly well this year and of their seven wins, the two roads ones have been their closest games so far – beating UCSB 11-10 OT and UNLV 9-5 while on their trip to Las Vegas.

Michigan State also happens to return a wealth of their scoring talent and entire team in general. With a new head coach and a new season on the brink, this will arguably be Michigan State’s most important first weekend of games to date.

MCLA D2

For the MCLA D2 ranks, I’m moving down the polls a little bit and picking our boys from Liberty to take down #9 Grand Valley State while on their Spring Break trip through the frosty Midwest.

GVSU is off to a rocky start this season and dropped their first two games while on a road trip to Florida before picking up the pace and coming home at .500. Liberty on the other hand, is off to a fast start with four wins to the tune of 64-25. The Flames will be tested with their road trip through Michigan and Indiana, playing four games in four days but could come out much higher in the next rankings if they stay in prime form throughout the trip.

Now it’s your turn, which of these upsets do YOU think is most likely to happen?
