Have to take some of the MLL transactions with a grain of salt….for obvious reason: guys working full time jobs, a hectic summer travel schedule and in some instances, a waivering committment to playing.

Hartzell gets a ton of media attention but he is not elite player in the MLL. Pretty good transition skills but he is not a great cover guy. Bayhawks protected their best 2 cover D men and kept their entire offense in tact. Evans covered the best player on every team, not Hartzell.

I should have been more clear on Denver’s D. It was only a weak point for them in the playoffs when they got bit by the injury bug. But I do think they focused on their D because of that.

Thanks for keeping me honest! And yes, Evans is good. But Hartzell could cover guys like JGJr, so I don’t know it’s fair to say he is easily beaten at close.

Denver had the least amount of goals against in the MLL ever, they wanted to keep those guys because it was the strength of their team, not their weakness. They have to rebuild the offense. Also, Mike Evans is by far the best d man on the Bayhawks, Hartzel is a good LSM but close defense wise he gets easily beat by the better attackmen.

not even a hartzell fan but that’s one of the stranger personnel moves i’ve ever seen. 81 may not be the prototypical d1 heartthrob but he’s a proven MLL quantity.
