Music Monday: Handsome Boy Modeling School

An oldie, but goodie. Do you remember when you first started listening to Handsome Boy Modeling School? If don’t or you didn’t, I’ve gotta say that’s a shame.

Handsome Boy Modeling School was a conceptual hip hop duo that parodied and acted as a commentary on vain, consumerist, materialistic, and self-absorbed members of upper class society, such as supermodels and people from old money. The pair often satirized upper class snobbery and perceived beauty.

A friend of mine introduced me to HBMS in 2004. They had just released the infamous album White People, and he couldn’t stop talking about it. Shoot, he couldn’t stop rapping outloud with his iPod on in the kitchen. I think he actually sent an application into the nonexistent School too. (Editor’s note: Hey Clough!)

Even though HBMS called it quits in 2006 due to some sort of money feud, they’ve still got a place in my eclectic music library (and heart). Since being introduced to this groundbreaking hip hop duo, I’ve gone as far as exclusively having only their beats as my cell phone ringtones. Their material was just that good, and it never gets old. Check out some of the best tracks below.

(Fair Warning: These tracks contain some strong language. Listen at your own discretion.)
